Afghanistan1880 (2 Sept.) entire autograph letter (without envelope) from Captain Bloomfield Gough to his mother having been on Lord Roberts' march from Kabul to Kandahar having defeated Ayub Khan at the battle of Maiwan. The letter, written over four sides of lettersheet, is headed "Khandahar!!!!!!" and begins, "Hoooooraaaayyy, glorious victory!!!!!!*****" and gives details of the march "I always used to go to sleep on my horse & wake with a horrid start finding myself just tumbling off. & oh how hot it was as we used not to get into our tents till the afternoon", having arrived "we found Ay...

BurmaWorld War I CensorsThe Kurt Groth CorrespondenceKurt Groth came from Svenborg then in Schleswig part of Ducy of Schleswig-Holstein. He was the Agent in Rangoon of Behn Meyer & Co. Ltd. After WWI began he was considered a foreign national subject to imprisonment. His mail was subject to censorship and forms some of the earliest censored mail from Burma. Subsequently he was interned at Ahmednagar, India.His wife, Thora, returned to her family, Marsmann in Svenborg, just before the start of the war, possibly sick. She caught a ship, the S.S.
