Die I, Stones A-B
A specialised, used selection of singles (10) and pair, well presented on album pages (7) including Stone A, [88] (2) showing marked retouching of chignon, hand on forehead and ear, and example with slight retouch to eye, ear, base of bust and lower part of left frame line, these both illustrated on plates II and 3 in Smythies and Martin; [37 and 61] singles (3) with retouched chignon and hair on forehead (ex Stuart), touch-up to 3rd and 8th right hand arches, and retouch to outer line at left and inner line of arches at left, and horizontal pair tied to piece with touch-up to hair below diadem, many of these illustrated in Smythies and Martin on plate 3; [48] with retouches across every element of the head (ex Dawson; Stone A1(b), [91] with retouches to hair, hair on neck, ear and chignon, illustrated in Smythies and Martin (plate II) and the proving example that the triple stone containing the A1 series was used to print issued stamps in blue; Stone A2, [52] with touch up to chignon, illustrated in Smythies and Martin (plate 3); Stone B (2), both with touch up to chignon, illustrated in Smythies and Martin (plates III and 5); the majority fine with clear margins all round, some very large. A scarce assembly for the specialist.
