A Great War ´1916, French Theatre´ M.M. Group of Four to Sergeant C.S. Flack, Worcestershire Regiment a) Military Medal, G.V.R. (1004 Cpl. C.S. Flack. 3/Worc: R.) b) 1914 Star, with Bar (10004 Pte. C.S. Flack. 3/.Worc:R.) c) British War and Victory Medals (10004 Sjt. C.S. Flack. Worc. R.), very fine or better (4) Estimate £ 450-550 M.M. London Gazette 21.10.1916 10004 Cpl. (Actg. Sjt.) C.S. Flack, Worc. R. 10004 Sergeant Charles Sidney Flack, M.M., enlisted Worcestershire Regiment, 6.7.1906; served during the Great War with the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the Western Front from 27.8.1914; the Battalion had taken up defensive positions around Ciply on the 22nd August, and was in constant action during the retreat from Mons, by the 27th they had suffered 3 officers and 100 other ranks killed, missing or wounded; by 1916 Flack´´s battalion were on the Somme, most notably taking part in the attacks on the Leipzig Redoubt (5.7.1916), the assault on Ovillers (10th - 17th July), and in conjunction with the 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, the attack on the Hindenburg Trench which ended in bloody hand to hand fighting; Flack was subsequently wounded and invalided out of the Army, 16.4.1917.
