Wax study on slate of Britannia, by William Wyon, 1830, Britannia, helmeted and draped, standing facing, head turned to her left, holding trident and the Union shield, the prow of a man-of-war behind, white wax, slate inscribed with concentric circles and 1830 in exergue, overall diam. 55mm., diam. of area in wax 41mm. Estimate £ 100-200 Forrer records that Wyon made prize medals for the Royal Naval College in 1830. For a bronze specimen of the medal of the Royal Naval School Cambrwell of 1833 see lot 420. This may also be associated with a proposed medal to commemorate the accession of William IV.
