A Sword of General Officer´s Pattern A sabre, probably for a senior officer of the Egyptian Army , with 33in. flat-sided blade (without maker´s name but serial No 02489) etched with foliate decoration, gvr cypher and crossed sword and baton, Mameluke hilt with copper crosspiece, (probably originally gilt) the écusson also bearing crossed sword and baton, bone or ivory scales to grip, in its good plated scabbard; together with a brown pigskin scabbard with nickel locket and chape, presumably for the same weapon but now an imperfect fit See illustration Estimate £ 300-450This sword belonged to Lt Colonel the Hon RM Feilden, Oxfordshire Light Infantry and Egyptian Army, whose medals are offered in Lots 440, 441, 524 and 528 below.
