India, East India Company, Bengal Presidency, "s" Rupee, 12.37g., Calcutta mint, fixed regnal year 19, small s to left of "s" of manus, rev. small star below bad, edge, straight grained (Pr.176), three tiny test marks on edge, about extremely fine, scarce; Prinsep's contract coinage (1780-84), Madosie (1/2-Anna) (2), 13.46 & 14.35g, the first with stars of a slightly different style (Pr.191; KM.126, 127), about fine and very fine (3) Estimate £ 80-100 Pridmore notes that the rupee appears to have been struck at the commencement of the new heavier series authorised for 1819. He suggests, being slightly cruder than the regular type, that this might be an experimental issue, with the letter "s" standing for Saunders, who was the Calcutta mint master between 1816-30.
