Douglas, brought him to the national forefront, Lincoln's presidential victory in 1860 ultimately led to the Secession Crisis and the Civil War; his deep humanity in meeting the challenges of the war that divided the nation cast him as one of America's greatest and most revered presidents. Document Signed "Abraham Lincoln" as President. 1 page, folio, partially printed, Washington, D.C. May 3, 1862. Lincoln appoints George D. Harrington to "Commissary of Subsistence in the Volunteer Force with the rank of Captain". Lincoln signs lower right, Edwin M. Staunton signs as Secretary of War, lower middle. Blue blind embossed seal lower left of U.S. eagle; brown ink notation upper left. The signatures firm and sharp. A fine autographed document. Attractively framed, 23 ½ x 28".
