Black History; Post Civil War: Petition to Bourbon County (KY) to employ one Franklin Hutchinson for county patrol. One page, handwritten, undated. The petition asks that Hutchinson be employed 300 hours a month (up from 100 hours) "which will give him time to attend to the Negro whisky shops and trading establishments, big meetings and public gatherings throughout the County.". Twenty-six signatures in both ink and pencil are appended below. A document from the post-Civil War era of the Black Codes. Four folds, small split along centerfold at left. Fine-Very Fine.
