American Revolution-related pair: Oliver Prescott (1731-1804). Physician, soldier, probate judge; major-general of the Massachusetts Militia (1778-1781), member of the Board of War, said to have been influential in the suppression of Shay's Rebellion, one of the original fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, brother of William Prescott. Autograph Signature "Oliver Prescott" on cut section of probate document. Matted with short biography. Fine+; Richard Peters, Jr. (1744-1828). Lawyer, jurist and politician, Delegate for PA to the Continental Congress, secretary then commissioner of the Continental Army Board of War, friend and benefactor of von Steuben. Autograph Document Signed "Richard Peters jr". Deed, 1771, Two and 1/8 pages, between Peters uncle, for whom he was named, Rev. Richard Peters and William Gilston for land in Cumberland County (PA). Reverend Richard Peters (1704-1776) served in numerous posts for the Penn family and was rector of Philadelphia's Christ Church until his health forced him to resign in 1775. Richard Peters (the younger) signs as a witness using 'jr" to distinguish him from his uncle, who signs to the right and on the last page. Small rent from an ink burn and old repair of center split.
