India General Service 1895-1908, 1 clasp, Relief of Chitral 1895 (Lieut A. Walpole. R.E.), sold together with corresponding miniature dress medal, very fine
Alfred Walpole enlisted into the Royal Engineers and was promoted Lieutenant in February 1886, Captain September 1896 and Major in October 1904. While in India, he was based at a number of different locations including serving in the Chitral Relief Force in 1896, at Wellington, Madras in 1900 and at Ranikhet in 1902. In 1903, Hart's Army notes Walpole as having been the Personal Assistant to the Chief Engineer at Bengal Command.
Walpole later died in Netley Abbey on 24 June 1910.
