Alexander Fairnside served as a Private with the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot during both the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny under regimental number 2799. He served in the Indian Mutiny at Lucknow and the Relief of Lucknow, and the British Army Worldwide Index shows that he was still stationed in India with his unit in 1861 at Rawalpindee. Fairnside is confirmed with entitlement to this medal and clasp and is further entitled to a Crimea 1854-56 Medal with a clasp for Alma; sold together with coped medal rolls.
