Richard Sutcliffe served as a Private under regimental number 3523 during the Indian Mutiny with the 90th Regiment of Foot (Perthshire Volunteers). They were in Havelock’s 1st Relief Force and took part in the second Defence of Lucknow. The roll confirms his entitlement to this Medal and clasp, and notes that he was killed in action on 6 October 1857; sold together with copied medal roll.
