(x) Distinguished Flying Cross, G.VI.R, the reverse engraved 'F/Lt L. J. Day RAF 1952', an old tailor's copy, very fine
Lewis James Day appears on Royal Air Force Lists as a Flying Officer on 10 September 1944 under the General Duties Branch (Navigators). Only two weeks later, he was then gazetted on 29 September for having joined the Royal Air Force Volunteers Reserve. On the 1 January 1946, Day was gazetted for having been promoted to Flying Officer with the R.A.F.V.R. and on the 27 February 1951, he appeared in the London Gazette for having been promoted from 'Flying Officer to Flight Lieutenant'. The following month on 17 April 1951, he was mentioned in dispatches for distinguished service in Korean operations. For his service, on 3 October 1952, Day was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and on the 30 June 1959, he was gazetted for having been promoted from 'Squadron Leader to Wing Commander'.
