D.C.M. London Gazette 3 October 1918, the original citation states:
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty and marked ability in gun-laying. On one occasion, although almost blinded by smoke and dust, he maintained a rate of fire three times faster than the laid-down standard.'
Frederick Howlett entered the war at some stage after 1916 and appears on the British War and Victory Medal roll serving with the Base Details of the Royal Garrison Artillery.
