Ronald Arthur Simmons was born at Sydney, New South Wales on 22 June 1933, the son of Dorothy Simmons. Serving at first with the 13th Battalion Service Training Battalion, he joined the Regular Army and was posted to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Kapooka on 3 July 1952. Initially joining the artillery after training, he was posted to the 4th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment on 26 July 1953 arriving in Japan on 16 December 1953.

Arriving in Korea from 27 January 1954, he served in the country until 9 November 1954, earning his U.N. Korea medal but missing entitlement to a Queen's Korea medal.

Posted to the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment on 14 July 1955, he disembarked at Penang on 20 October 1955. He served there for the next two years during which time the Regiment was largely employed on patrols or as security for the New Villages. Returning to Australia on 18 October 1957, Simmons remained in service for some time, before being discharged on 2 July 1964; sold together with copied research.
