Pair: Sergeant Keith Gee, Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales' Own Yorkshire Regiment)
General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya (22823694 Pte. K. Gee. Green Howards.); General Service 1962-2007, 1 clasp, Northen Ireland (22823694 Sgt. K. Gee Green Howards), very fine (2)
A letter dated 11 January 1984 from Lieutenant-Colonel John Bottomley at the Regimental Headquarters of the Green Howards describes Gee's military career as follows:
I think it is correct to say that his GSM Malaya was probably earned in 1967-68 when we were stationed in Hong Kong and used to send parties of officers, NCOs and soldiers down to Malaya for a month operational training with other units. All of them qualified for the medal by virtue of their month in the jungle. Later, Gee became Pioneer Sgt and served with us in the Northen Ireland operations of the early 70s.'
Another letter, dated 4 January 1990, from Yeoman Warder Derrick Coyle recalls some further memories of Gee:
I did know Keith Gee very well. He was my Platoon Cpl at one time in 1963 when I was in the Recce Platoon in North Africa. He eventually was promoted to Acting C/Sgt in Chester in 1975 and commanded the Assault Pioneer Platoon but was Court Martialled in that year and dismissed [from] the service for being found with explosives at his home.
