Leonard Alfred Allen served in France with the Machine Gun Corps from February 1915 (1914-15 Star) and with 26 Battery, Motor Machine Gun Service. Wounded in June 1915 by a gun shot wound to the head, he was discharged in November 1915 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the London Regiment. Seconded to the Machine Gun Corps (Heavy), he then became one of the primary instructors for those going off to France in the new 'land ships' and was with the Tank Corps by the War's end.
