James Forshaw originally served with Sheffield University O.T.C. before joining 3/5th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters 27 September 1915. He joined the King's African Rifles attached to Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment promoted to Lieutenant and later to Captain. He had left the Army by April 1922. He applied for his Great War Pair in 1924 and they were sent to Russells Brewery, Gravesend, Kent.
