M.I.D. London Gazette 5 June 1919.

Francis James Knights was born on 10 August 1889 in Tottenham. He enlisted to join the Queen's Regiment on 12 December 1914 and was sent to the Egyptian Theatre of War on 4 August 1915. It is likely that while out in Egypt, he transferred to 66th Company, Machine Gun Corps, with which he earnt a mention in dispatches in the London Gazette on 5 June 1919. His service number with this new company was 53187. During the war, the 66th Company joined the 22nd Division on 14 July 1916 at Salonika. They saw action at the Battle of Horseshoe Hill, the Battle of Machukovo and in 1917, the Battle of Doiran. Knights was discharged as unfit on 21 April 1919 and qualified for the Silver War Badge. He later worked as a bioscope operator in a cinema in 1939, and as a painter and decorator. He died in January 1942, aged 53.
