William Henry Judd was born at North Axton, Oxfordshire in 1865, attesting at Oxfordshire in February 1885. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, stationed in India on 2 January 1886 he joined them when they were posted on to Burma on 23 October 1889. The British had annexed Upper Burma in 1885 and found themselves plagued by low level attacks from guerillas and bandits, the deployment of the Regiment was part of the British response.

Returning to Britain on 26 November 1892 Judd was sent to the Army Reserve on 5 December 1892, Mobilised on 15 January 1900 for service in the Boer War Judd arrived in South Africa as part of a draft of reinforcements on 6 February 1900. His bible notes that he served with 'E' Company, 1st Battalion whilst in the country.

Once again returning to Britain on 22 January 1902 he was discharged on 8 March 1902. Judd settled in Warwickshire, working as a clay miner while he raised a family, apparently changing his name to Judge whilst there. He attested with the 7th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment with the number 13663 using the name of Judge, listing previous service on 8 October 1914 under the service number 1773.

Never serving overseas he transferred to the Royal Defence Corps on 29 April 1916, being finally disembodied on 12 March 1919. Judd returned to Britain for the final time and died at Warwick in September 1943; sold together with copied research.
