India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, N. E. Frontier 1891, (3954 Bugler J. Clarke. 4th Bn. K.R.Rif.C.), suspension slack, minor contact wear, overall very fine

John Clarke was born at Shoreditch, London and attested there on 23 November 1886, listing his previous trade as 'musician'. He was posted to India on 7 December 1887 and appointed Bugler whilst there on 15 June 1888. Noted as being sent to Burmah on 31 October 1890, it was from there that he was active during the Manipur Revolt of 1891.

Further appointed Bandsman on 6 July 1891 Clarke returned Home on 6 December 1892. Interestingly he joined the Irish Guards on 8 November 1901 although did not see service in the Anglo-Boer War. Appointed 'Musician' on 9 November 1901 he was still in service during the Great War being posted to France on 29 July 1916 and remaining there until 9 March 1918; sold together with copied research.
