Army L.S. & G.C., V.R. (11. Sergt R. Stockdale, Mil: Labrs), mounted as worn, lightly toned, good very fine
Robert Stockdale was born at Bainton, Yorkshire and enlisted into the 16th Foot at Chatham, Kent on 3 September 1860. He served in Halifax, Nova Scotia between 21 December 1861 - 10 May 1866 before being sent to the West Indies serving there between 11 May 1866 - 23 March 1886. During this time he was promoted to Corporal on 7 June 1866 and then transferred to the Corps of Military Laborers on 30 April 1867. He was promoted to Sergeant the following day and further promoted to Infirmary Sergeant on 1 December 1878 and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal in 1879. Stockdale was promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant 6 October 1880 and Regimental Sergeant Major and Warrant Officer on 12 July 1881. He retired on 3 March 1886 and returned Home on 24 March 1886 leaving the army on 13 April 1886.
