Army L.S. & G.C., V.R. (1026. Sgt Cook W. T. Jefford, Cavly D. S.), small edge bruise otherwise very fine

Walter Thomas Jefford was born at Newington, Surrey on 26 May 1841 and enlisted into the 8th Hussars at Westminster on 5 February 1858. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 October 1858 and to Sergeant on 1 May 1862. He then transferred to the 19th Hussars on 31 December 1862 and was appointed to the Cavalry Depot at Canterbury on 15 October 1866. Jefford transferred again on 25 July 1871 this time to the 21st Hussars with the rank of Sergeant Cook at the Cavalry Depot Canterbury where he remained until he was discharged on 30 November 1878. In his civilian life he became a manager of the Compasses Public House, 18 St. Peter Street, Canterbury, Kent and later moved to Dover where he ran the Deal Cutter on Beach Street. Jefford died on 2 November 1906.
