Army L.S. & G.C., V.R. (Serjeant Major J. Wightman 1st Light Cavalry.), reverse slightly struck off centre otherwise very fine
John Wightman married in January 1862 and at that time he was serving as a Sergeant Major in the 1st Regiment of Light Cavalry. His son died in 1865, and his wife died on 10 March 1877 during childbirth. By then Wightman was a Conductor within the Ordnance Department. He appears in the London Gazette of 19 March 1880 where he is given the rank of Lieutenant dated 6 December 1879. He remarried in October 1880 and is shown as Lieutenant in the Ordnance Department. He later retired in 1882 at the rank of Captain as shown in the London Gazette 1 December 1882. His second wife died in 1887 as a result of congestion of the lungs. He was still alive in 1911 when his son was married on 3 June 1911, his son is noted as being a Retired Police Inspector of India.
