1939-1945 Star; Italy Star; Africa Star, clasp, 8th Army; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, nearly extremely fine (5)

Herbert John Dimond was born on 5 December 1917 and enlisted into The Queen's Regiment at Guildford in December 1939, a brick fireplace layer by trade. Having been married in March 1940, he was advanced Lance-Corporal in May 1941 and Sergeant by War's end, serving in the Signals Platoon. Upon his discharge in March 1946, his CO rated his conduct 'exemplary' with the following Testimonial:

'A first class NCO who has served in the Western Desert and Italy. He is most intelligent, reliable and completely trustworthy, and has excelled himself in administrative duties. A keen sportsman, cheerful and hard working, he is strongly recommended to any employer.'

Dimond would have seen and shared in the various actions of the Battalion, who notably found themselves in the Anzio Cave Battle shortly after their landing to support our American Allies.
