Archibald Fairbairn Gebbie was born at Galashiels, Selkirkshire and enlisted into the King's Own Scottish Borderers in May 1939. He was posted to the 15th Battalion, Reconnaissance Corps in January 1941. He served with the 4th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps in Italy and was wounded in the fraught actions around Monte Cassino on 3 April 1944. Joining 46th Royal Tank Regiment in November 1945, his T.E.M. was awarded as per Army Order 196 of 1946. Gebbie was a wool expert and fellmonger by trade and is listed as having travelled to Argentina; sold together with riband bar, RAC Tracer Card and research.
