William James Glanville was born at Cornwall, England on 4 September 1897. He emigrated to Canada in 1914 and was working as a gardener at Sherbrooke, Quebec when he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 25 September 1916. Posted to the Quebec Regiment he was discharged at Montreal medically unfit on 5 January 1918. Emigrating to Australia he enlisted in the Australian Military Force on 2 November 1939 and was posted to the 10th Field Hygiene Section in October 1940, before being posted to the Murchison prisoner of war camp in September 1941.
Camp 13 Murchison was the largest purpose-built POW camp in Australia and was headquarters and point of control for all the POW camps across the nation. It was able to accommodate 4000 prisoners and over time held German, Italian and Japanese military personnel and merchant seamen.
Glanville was discharged on 31 October 1942 and died at Leeston, New South Wales on 28 December 1966; sold together with copied research.
