Three: Staff Nurse F. Roberts, Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (Reserve)
British War and Victory Medals (S/Nurse F. Roberts); Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve Cape Badge, silver hallmarked for Birmingham 1917, sold together with a cap badge, good very fine (3)
Frances Roberts was born at West Derby, Lancashire in 1886, the daughter of John and Sarah Roberts. She was posted to Egypt on 11 October 1917 as a Staff Nurse with the 71st General Hospital. Posted at one stage to the 110th Field Ambulance based in Jerusalem here her reputation took a hit as several letters note that she was 'untrustworthy'. One relates a story where she swore she would not attend dances only to then do so, another states:
'While the Matron was on leave, this lady did not carry out her duties as carefully as she should have done; + she did not deal tactfully with the Officer patients'.
Returning to Britain on 18 March 1921, she applied for a job at the Queen Victoria's Jubilee Institute Nursing Home and the Ebor Nursing Home in Blackheath. Unfortunately, she appears to have been rejected by both, likely on the basis of her service record; sold together with copied research.
