(x) The Great War trio awarded to Captain G. A. MacDonald, 7th Canadian Mounted Rifles, late 9th (Grey's) Horse
British War and Victory Medals (Lieut. G. A. MacDonald.); Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers Decoration, G.V.R. (Capt. G. A. MacDonald 9 Horse), mounted as worn, contact marks, very fine (3)
George Allan MacDonald was born in Oxford County, Ontario on 15 April 1884. He was married to Miss Muriel Douglas, and they lived together in London, Ontario where he worked in the civil service.
MacDonald served for six years with the 9th (Grey's) Horse before joining the C.E.F. on 30 March 1915. Once overseas, he was posted to the 7th Canadian Mounted Rifles. He served in France and Belgium for about two years before being granted special leave to return to Canada in June 1917, where he was retained for medical treatment.
After a period of recommended convalescence he was found medically unfit for overseas service, his debility caused by service conditions in France and possibly in connection with him being lightly gassed on three occasions. MacDonald appears to have remained at home in London, Ontario with his wife Muriel at their home on Princess Avenue; sold together with trio of miniature dress medals and copied research.
