Frederick Sowerbutts was born at Bethnal Green, London. He enlisted at London into the 9th Battalion (Queen Victoria's Rifles) London Regiment. He was killed on 9 September 1916 during the attack South and South West of Bouleaux Wood and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
