Edwin Arney Vezey was born on 20 January 1897 and was a native of Bath. He served in France with the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry and thence transferred to the 1st Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment. Whilst serving with 'A' Company, he was taken a Prisoner of War with the 1st Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment at St Quentin on the First Day of the German Spring Offensive, 21 March 1918. In the action Captain Reginald Hayward took a Victoria Cross for his actions.
