William John Davies was born in Treharris, Glamorgan and enlisted with the Shropshire Light Infantry at Merthyr. He was posted to the 7th Battalion, with whom he disembarked for service at the Western Front on 28 September 1915 - he was to be killed in action less than a year later on 14 July 1916. Davies is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, and his pension was claimed by his mother Rebecca; sold together with copied research.
