Memorial Plaque (Brenton Haynes), very fine

Brenton Haynes was born on 27 May 1892 and was the son of George and Hermione Haynes of Gananoque, Ontario, Canada. Haynes had been a Clerk before he enlisted into the 75th Battalion (No. 220449) on 9 February 1916.

The 75th Batallion left Canada for England on 29 March 1916 arriving on 9 April 1916 and were in Belgium by August 1916.

On 18 November 1916, the 75th Canadian Battalion was involved in the Battle of the Ancre, the final major operation of the Battle of the Somme. The 75th, part of the 4th Canadian Division, fought to capture Regina and Desire Trenches. The battle ended on this date, marking the end of the five-month Somme offensive. The 4th Canadian Division, including the 75th Battalion, achieved their objectives, taking German prisoners but also suffering significant casualties, including 248 from the 75th Battalion, with 104 killed.

Haynes is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
