New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated '1861-1866', disc only, the rim marked 'Specimen xxxxx' but the naming '...Hanson. 3rd Waikato.' visible; Silver brooch, 45mm, the obverse with Queen Victoria and the reverse an engraved Maori warrior carrying club; New Zealand Army Nursing Service pin Badge, good very fine (5)
James Welch Maxwell was the son of Alfred Charles and Jane Maxwell of Dromore, Canterbury, New Zealand. During the Great War he served as a Sapper with the New Zealand Engineers (4/971) and died of wounds on Gallipoli on 29 November 1915, aged just 19. He is buried in the Ari Burnu Cemetery, Anzac.
