(x) British War Medal 1914-20 (82799 Pte. D. J. Edwards. M.G.C.; P-5085 Pte. A. J. Toogood. M. F. P.; 402168. 2. A.M.R. Carson. R.A.F.; 31228 Pte. W. T. Humphreys. K.S.L.I.), very fine (4)

John Edwards, from Bryn, Llanelli, served with the then newly formed 74th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps. The M.G.C. was the British Army's answer for the need for more efficient use of the Lewis gun, and thus on 14 October 1915 the Corps was founded. While fighting on the Western Front, Edwards was killed in action on 21 June 1917. He is buried in Belgium at the Lindenhoele Road Military Cemetery in Wulvergham.

Alfred J Toogood was born in Bristol on 16 December 1897. He served with the Military Foot Police, the Hampshire Regiment and the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment. While serving with the Wiltshire Regiment, he was captured at Messines on 10 April 1918 and taken to Stendal Prisoner of War camp. Stendal was known to the British as a 'dummy camp' where prisoners were more commonly kept on the front lines rather than being taken to Germany and being kept inside a camp. Instead, it is likely that Toogood was kept in awful conditions, with little shelter on the front line, being forced to assist in military-related labour such as rebuilding trenches and clearing battlefields. It is likely Toogood stayed there for the remaining few months of the war.

Robert Carson was born in Edinburgh on 29 December 1893 and worked as a plumber before the war. He served with the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) and the Royal Air Force. He joined the war on 12 April 1915 serving with the Royal Scots. He later joined the newly formed Royal Air Force where his existing trade was listed as 'Copper Linesman' - a trade which centred around repairing the telegraph and telephone lines. He served with the R.A.F. until 30 April 1920. He was further entitled to the 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal.

Walter Thomas Humphreys was born in 1885 to Louisa and William Humphreys. He joined the 5th Battalion, Shropshire Light Infantry. He was disembodied from service on 19 March 1919.
