Herman Tritt, raised in Christchurch, New Zealand, joined the First World War on 13 November 1915 with the 8th Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Battalion. On 29 September 1918, members of the 1st Battalion were taken prisoner near Cambrai. After capture, they were ordered to carry German wounded soldiers to Wallincourt, where they stayed overnight. They then marched 25km to Le Quesnoy, with minimal rations and were forced to sleep on stone floors. They then embarked on a 10km march to Feignies, again with little to no food. The following five days were spent in cattle trucks on the way to Dulmen Camp in Germany, receiving little food along the way. Once they arrived, they were held in quarantine. Food remained scarce from the Germans - Red Cross parcels helped. Eventually, the men were transferred to Holland, and then England.

Ian Philip Brownrigg was a Salesman from Wellington before he joined the First World War between 26 April 1917 and 20 July 1917. He served with the 25th Reinforcements, New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
