Arthur Johnson was born in 1891 at Bramley, Surrey and enlisted at Cranleigh. He served in France with the 7th Battalion from 27 July 1915 and was killed in action on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. Aged just 25, he is commemorated upon the Thiepval Memorial, his parents living at Blacknest, Dunsfold. His name is further inscribed upon the Dunsfold Memorial Cross.
