Alexander Nicolson served as a Captain in the East African Pay Corps, and was Mentioned in Despatches in 1918 (London Gazette 6 August 1918, refers); by profession a clerk for the Inland Revenue he was also a keen golfer, being on the Committee of the Nairobi Golf Club (1925) and President of the Kitale Club in 1938; he further presented a gold cup for the Amateur Golf Championship of East Africa in 1925 and was the winner of the Trans-Nzoia Championship in 1933 - the latter a series of sporting events still held to this day. He sadly died of heat stroke, in the Red Sea, on 17 June 1947.
Matthew Burnard Keevy also served in the East African Pay Corps during the Great War: further entitled to the Victory Medal, his campaign awards were sent to him in March 1923.
