The British War Medal awarded to 2nd Lieutenant J. C. Jackson-Taylor, King's Shropshire Light Infantry who was killed in action on 21 March 1918 the First Day of the German Spring Offensive

British War Medal 1914-20 (2. Lieut. J. C. Jackson-Taylor), edge bruise otherwise very fine

John Curzon Jackson-Taylor was born on 14 August 1898, son of B.P. Jackson-Taylor, Bank House, Hereford and was educated at Sherborne Boys School (The Green 1912-1916) before attending Sandhurst. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 1 May 1917 into the King's Shropshire Light Infantry he joined the 1st Battalion in France.

The King's Shropshire Light Infantry outlines the fate of the Battalion on the fatefully day that the German Spring Offensive rolled over Allied lines, a five hour artillery bombardment and 'overwhelming' infantry attack. The Battalion was on the extreme left of the 16th Brigade's line and soon found the units on their flanks forced back, leaving them 'up in the air'. The Regimental History Continues:

'Captain Platt was not seen again, and at 10 a.m., with both flanks in the air, the battalion was in a desperate situation. Sending back Lieut. Moody, 1st Buffs, and some thirty men of that battalion, to cover the retreat, Lt.-Colonel Smith decided to retire. Lieut. Moddy was killed soon after leaving the Colonel, fighting to the last and refusing to surrender. Lieut. Jackson-Taylor, sent to ascertain whether Lieut. Moody's party was in position, was also killed, and when D Company commended to retire they found the enemy already in their rear.'

Jackson-Taylor is commemorated upon the Arras Memorial; sold together with copied research.
