Marcus Geoffrey Wilson was born on 4 August 1899 and lived at Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. He worked as a Clerk with Whitworth Brothers, Victoria Mills, Wellingborough, before he enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps on 1 October 1917 as an Airman 3rd Class. He was firstly based at Halton, transferring to the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918 as a Private 2nd Class. Wilson was commissioned as an Observer on 8 June 1918. Wilson served with No.218 Squadron and took part in four separate raids on Ostende Harbour and Bruges Docks between 17 June - 6 August 1918.
However his luck was to run out when flying with Lieutenant A. C. Lloyd (pilot) on board a D.H.9 (D1708) they were shot down by Oblt. Osterkamptaken on 16 August 1918. They force landed uninjured at Breskens, Holland and were subsequently interned in Holland. He was repatriated on 15 November 1918 and was admitted to the Grove Military Hospital, Tooting, London on 2 December 1918. He transferred to the Manchester Regiment 14 April 1919. Wilson died on 8 June 1972.
