An unusual 1905 R.V.M. group of four awarded to Corporal G. G. Tegg, Durham Light Infantry, who was a long-served Valet who was called upon to assist the Khedive of Egypt as Servant during the marriage of Their Royal Highnesses Princess Margaret of Connaught & Prince Gustavus of Sweden & Norway

George Gerald Tegg was born circa 1882 and was a valet by trade. At the 1905 Royal Marriage, he was selected to be Servant to the Khedive of Egypt. Abbas II, presented Princess Margaret of Connaught with a diamond tiara, known as the Khedive of Egypt Tiara, as a wedding gift when she married Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden in 1905. This tiara, made by Cartier, became a cherished heirloom and has been worn by several members of the Swedish and Danish royal families.
By the outbreak of the Great War, Tegg was employed as Valet to Sir George Macpherson-Grant, 5th Baronet of Ballindalloch. The castle remains in the family to this day and is open to the public to visit.
Tegg served in France with the 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry from 31 July 1915 and was discharged in December 1918 having been admitted to hospital with bronchitits during his service. At that time he was living at 19 South Clunes, Kirkhill, Inverness.
