Reginald Binyon Whitehead was born in Camberwell, London in July 1889, the son of Binyon and Constance Whitehead. Commissioned Second Lieutenant on 1 June 1915 with the 6th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Entering the war in France in August 1915, his M.I.C. notes that he was not eligible for the 1915 Star. At some stage Whitehead was transferred to Mesopotamia and served attached to the Signal Service, being 'mentioned' in this role in 1917 (London Gazette 14 August 1917 refers).
He remained with the Army of India after the war, being promoted Captain on 27 November 1926 and Major on 3 July 1934. Relinquishing his commission on 1 January 1935, he appears to have retired to Australia, being noted as residing in Newport New South Wales in 1972; sold together with copied research.
