(x) The campaign group of three awarded to Private H. C. Wailes, 'B' Company, 19th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, who was wounded at Gallipoli and later Killed in Action in France

Herbert Charles Wailes was born at Staffordshire, England in 1884 and was educated at Wellingborough, Northampton. Enlisting with the 19th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force on 8 February 1915 he embarked for Gallipoli on 25 June 1915. There they saw action at Hill 60 and Pope's Hill before being transferred to France upon the evacuation of the Peninsula.

They went into action at the Battle of Pozières during the Somme Offensive at it was there that Wailes was wounded in action on 31 July 1916 in the side and abdomen by Shrapnel. He died of wounds on 3 August 1916 and is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery.
