Lionel George Montagu Harcourt was born on 18 September 1877 at Gibraltar, the second son of Colonel G.J. Harcourt late Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the West India Regiment on 16 February 1898, promoted to Lieutenant on 16 November 1898. He later transferred to the Army Service Corps with whom he served during the Boer War. Elevated to Captain he joined the Indian Army Supply & Transport Corps at Quetta in 1903 where he died on 4 February 1909 at Quetta India, cause unknown. He is buried at Christ Church, Rawalpindi.
