1950 Autograph letter on notepaper of Buckingham Palace, with the original registered envelope addressed to Miss Sharman Douglas, Claridges Hotel (London), initialled "M" with the cypher stamp of King George VI. Her father was the American Ambassador to the Court of St. James from 1947-1950 and Princess Margaret became a close friend. She thanks her for a "magnificent Christmas present. You know how my eyes nearly drop out with excitement when I even glance at Nylons...I am just rushing off to Malta to stay with Lilibet for a week which sounds glorious and I fully expect to see the SUN". A reference to Princess Elizabeth who was living in Malta at this time, Prince Philip was serving in the Royal Navy and they were based there.
