Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught (1850-1942)
1930 Autograph message on a correspondence card of Clarence House, written by the last surviving son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, regarding the Airship R101 disaster. "The disaster of the complete destruction of R101 is a ghastly affair and I feel the greatest sympathy with the Air Force. Personally I hate the airship and doubt its utility".
The R101 crashed in France during its maiden flight killing all 48 of the 54 passengers aboard, including Lord Thompson, the Air Minister who had initiated the program to build it.
