1901 Remarkable autograph instruction by the King, initialled "ER", written on mourning notepaper of H.M.S. OPHIR, while visiting Portsmouth to bid farewell to the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (the future King George V and Queen Mary), about to depart on a tour of the Colonies. The King requests his Equerry, Lord Carrington, to represent him at the funeral of the Earl of Arran. Affairs of State are never far from the daily life of the Sovereign.
