The Arrest of Two Captains off Ireland
1642 (17 Aug.) entire letter from John Browne, "Cleric Parliamentor" on the ship 'Mercury' "To the house or any other[?] attending this House of his Deputy, to be conveyed to the Earle of Warwick", ordering Warwick, the Lord Admiral, to arrest Captains Kettleby and Sir Henry Stradling of the Swallow and Bonaventure, which were on guard duty off the coast of Ireland who "have lately departed the Charge whereby they have opposed his Mat's. good subjects in that Kingdome to create danger in this tyme of Rebellion"; also 1642 (27 July) entire letter from Hamon l'Estrange to the Earl of Manchester (Speaker of the House of Lords) on behalf of two men summoned to appear before Parliament on a different matter. Fascinating and important.

Notes: It is report in (Clarendon, History, v. 377 n., 381; cf. Commons' Journals, ii. 723; and Hist. MSS. Comm. 12th Rep. App. ii. 321, under 22 Aug. 1642 that "they no sooner endeavoured to bring off their ships to the king, but they were seized upon by the seamen and kept prisoners till they could be sent to land"
