King Charles I
1642 (20 January) letter signed "Charles R" being a Warrant addressed to Governor or Commander of the King's forces or garrison in or near Newark, ordering forces and assistance to Prince Rupert, "Whereas Our Highness Prince Rupert is employed in an expedition of importune for our especiall service in Leicestershire; which he may have occasion to use some forces from our Garrison. Letter split along folds and laid down on wove paper, leaving the majority of the filing endorsement visible on the reverse. Rare and important.
