State 2: horizontal pair in brownish rose-red on thick bluish paper, from the lower left corner of the sheet with large sheet margin at left, the adhesives showing results of chemical trials, annotated in the sheet margin "New Colour June 1st [first date on which experiments were conducted], 4 dipt P" in Bacon's handwriting; sheet variously creased as is often the case, nevertheless a striking piece.
